Pittsburgh, Pa – May 23, 2011 – Silk Screen is proud to announce that the winner of this year’s RAGS Foundation People’s Choice Award is Aftershock (China).

Based on the novel of the same name by Zhang Ling,Aftershock is the recreation of the disastrous earthquake that occurred in Tangshan in 1976. The film follows the story of Li Yuanni, a survivor of an event that killed over 240,000 people in just 23 seconds. She must make a crucial decision about her family during the rescue, moments after losing her husband. Her twins are buried under cement block and only one can be saved; her son is chosen. The images of the quake are well created, however director Xiaogang Feng focuses more on the courage of the survivors and symbolic reverberations for Li Yuanni.

Aftershock won 2 categories at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards [ASPA] in late 2010.  First for Best Performance by an Actor to Chen Daoming and also Best Feature Film for director Xiaogang Feng. APSA is held annually in Queensland, Australia. It also earned a special mention as the official entry from China at the Motion Picture Academy's Oscar Awards.

The People’s Choice Award is sponsored by the RAGS Foundation, which is a non-profit organization started by Sridhar and Gunjan Tayur located in Pittsburgh.

The 2011 6th Annual Silk Screen film festival was a hit, drawing over 2,000 attendees. All films [except opening and closing night events] were given the opportunity to enter and each film screened was eligible to win the prize.
