Education Outreach Programs
The Silk Screen Education Program includes all aspects of the arts from Asia. Silk Screen brings education to students of all ages by sharing experiences with origins from Turkey, China, India, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines and more. The events are in-line with our mission to increase awareness and support of Silk Screen’s cultural programming of Asia.
Through the media of film, music, dance, and theater, all communities are able to learn and experience each other’s cultures and come to recognize our shared human experience. Silk Screen has heightened both local residents and visitors’ of all ages to have a better understanding that Pittsburgh is not just part of Allegheny County, but part of a global community.
Silk Screen has developed a year-long celebration of Asian and Asian-American arts. These include educational outreach (K-12); art exhibits, theater, dance and music performances and film series discussions.
The 2009 events provided a new audience exposure to Asian Arts. Events include an introduction of the Asian art, the background on the performers, and the history and traditions of the event. Audience participation and discussion are encouraged.
