Silk Screen taking shape
"I Am," an account of four people facing prejudice and discrimination within modern Indian society while never losing sight of their dreams, will be the opening night movie for Silk Screen, the sixth annual Asian festival. It will play at 7 p.m. May 6 at the Harris Theater, Downtown.
The screening will be followed by a gala at the Omni William Penn Hotel with guests in ethnic dress, performances by Asian entertainers and food from Japan, China, Korea, India and elsewhere.
Tickets for the film are $15 before May 1 and $20 at the door. Gala tickets are $85 until April 20; $100 from April 21 to May 1; and $125 after and at the door.
Silk Screen will present roughly 20 films with 40 screenings at the Harris, Regent Square Theater, Pittsburgh Filmmakers' Melwood Screening Room and The Warhol Museum May 6 to 15. Tickets and festival passes can be purchased at www.silkscreenfestival.org.
