Silk Screen Festival Expands Scope in 2007
Pittsburgh’s Asian Festival Features International Films & Concerts in May

Pittsburgh, PA – April 09, 2007 – For the second year in a row, Pittsburgh will be the
under an international spotlight as it plays host to the 2nd annual Silkscreen Festival from May
11th through May 20th. Last year the Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival debuted to
national and international accolades. Not content just to repeat the successful formula from
last year, the organizers have set higher goals for themselves in hopes to quickly establish Silk
Screen as the pre-eminent international festival celebrating Asian culture. This year Silk
Screen has added music to the program by offering 3 concerts featuring world class
musicians from India, Japan and China. And to increase audience participation in the film
screenings, Silk Screen has added an Audience Award this year that will be presented to the
film selected by members of the Silk Screen audience.

This year the festival will be screening about 20 feature films made by Asian and Asian
American film makers. Each film showcases a universally appealing story of human emotions,
joy and/or drama. Many of the films have won numerous awards, and several are scheduled
for special presentations that include question and answer sessions with the filmmakers.
Venues for the screenings have also expanded this year and include: The Regent Square
Theater, the Harris Theater, the Melwood Screening Room. The Andy Warhol Museum and
the Penn State Greater Allegheny Campus.

The three concerts – which will all be held at the Carnegie Lecture Hall –feature artists from
India, Japan, and China. Tabla artist Suphala will perform on Sunday May 13th. On Thursday
May 17th a concert will be presented by Koto performer Masayo Ishigure . The concert series
concludes on Saturday May 19th with the Chinese music ensemble Melody of Dragon.
Silkscreen will roll out the red carpet to welcome a roster of international celebrities to
Pittsburgh at their Gala on Saturday May 12. This celebration will showcase the vast diversity
of the Asian creative spirit.

Tickets for the concerts are $25 each. Tickets for the films are $8 dollars at the door. Before
the festival begins, film goers can purchase a film pass for $50 that will give them 8 admissions
to the films. For more information about the films, concerts and gala or to purchase tickets,
