Marketing Interns

Silk Screen, Asian Arts organization is a non-profit whose mission is to promote cross-
cultural education of the Asian Arts through entertainment: film, music and dance performances. Marketing & Public Relations: This person will work directly with the Executive Director, Operations Director, and Programming Assistant in maintaining and increasing the media presence of Silk Screen. Successful candidates will posses excellent oral and written communication skills and an attention to detail.

  • Maintain active presence in social media
  • Update website (WordPress knowledge a plus, no programming required)
  • Create press releases for Silk Screen events
  • Create listings for Silk Screen events on local community calendars
  • Manage local/national media contact information and research for new sources
  • Put together monthly e-newsletter
  • Conduct interviews for monthly newsletter
  • Assist with and attend outreach and fundraising events

Hours: Silk Screen Office – between 12-16 hours a week.
The main event of Silk Screen is a 10-day film festival in the spring showcasing Asian and Asian American films. NOTE: Interns are expected to be available throughout the entire festival. The 2015 Festival is April 24th-May 3rd 2015. Office Operations This person will work directly with the Festival Coordinator on all aspects of operation for Silk Screen festival and cultural / arts events.


    Marketing & Promotions Intern

    Silk Screen, Asian Arts organization is a 501c3 non-profit whose mission is to promote cross-cultural education of the Asian Arts through entertainment: film, music and dance performances.
    Marketing & Promotions: In 2013 Silk Screen launched Silk Sound, an Asian-fusion jazz ensemble. Following the success of its 2013 debut performance, Silk Sound plans to release an album in the fall of 2014. The marketing and promotions intern will assist with all aspects of the release. Preferred candidates will have excellent organization and communication skills. Excel proficiency and strong internet research skills are a must.

    • Create a promotional plan for the Silk Sound album release
    • Build a list of local, regional, and national music critics for print newspapers, tv, radio, and on-line sources
    • Create a list of performance venues for jazz and world music artist both locally and regionally
    • Write press releases and social media updates for Silk Sound and other programs as needed
    • Help plan and promote concerts
    • Help promote other Silk Screen programs and fundraising events
    • Help the Operations Director plan fundraising events
    • Attend Silk Screen events

    Events & Operations Intern

    Year-Round Event & Operations This person will work directly with Organization Leadership staff on all aspects of operations for Silk Screen festival and cultural/arts events year round.

    • Assist with fundraiser and Film Festival planning
    • Assist in coordinating special events
    • Assist with community, school, and college outreach
    • Maintain spreadsheets of community contacts
    • Attend Silk Screen events

    Festival Programming Intern

    2 Positions Available
    Silk Screen, Asian Arts organization is a non-profit whose mission is to promote cross-cultural education of the Asian Arts through entertainment: film, music and dance performances.
    Film Programming: 2 positions available Programming inters work directly with the Film Programming Assistant to research and obtain films for that year’s Asian and Asian American Film Festival. Knowledge of film and research skills are helpful. Since this person will assist with writing film descriptions and review, he or she must posses excellent written communication skills.

    • Research, rate, track and coordinate bringing the festival films to Pittsburgh
    • Arrange for screener samples of films that are deemed interesting by the Festival Programming Committee to be sent to Pittsburgh
    • Create files and keep records of the sample screeners that leave the office
    • Update the spreadsheet of the potential film choices
    • Watch and provide a written review of screener samples for consideration
    • Write film descriptions for use on the website, min-guide, and program book
    • Attend outreach programs and fundraising events
