When Fatima’s husband leaves the Syrian regime army to join the rebels, he arranges for a man named Farid to take her and her sister Aya out of the country. Tekko ( formerly Tekkoshocon) is an annual anime convention held by Pittsburgh Japanese Cultural Society during April. This year, the convention offers various activities including art contest, cosplay contest, dance competition, panels, screenings and workshops.

AppalAsia combines the influences of Appalachian and Asian music traditions with original composition and inspired improvisation to create their unique musical voice. Using erhu, dulcimer, banjo, and vocals they have created a cross-cultural musical experience that draws on their collaboration of traditions with an ear toward the future. The group is comprised of Jeff Berman, Mimi Jong, and Sue Powers.
