Asia Center

"The Asia Center of Pittsburgh. A vision for the future"

Vision

Silk Screen, Asian Arts and Culture group hopes to build a world class Asia center in Pittsburgh over the next few years. It will be an international destination for Asian-American cultural events, educational trips, language services and library, as well as performances of dance and music on stage and a  theater for Asian films. The building would also have a Pan-Asian restaurant, a gallery space and a resource. It will be a Gateway to Asia.

There is no significant center of this nature between New York City and San Francisco. With the established and continual growth of the Asian population, Pittsburgh is the key geographic location to make home for such a place.

Need

Asia is in our future. To be a part of the global community we must embrace Diversity and Multiculturalism.
Over 40,000 Asians live in the Western PA and tri-state area Greater Pittsburgh area. There are many small community organizations of Asian subcultures as well as religious centers, but not one central place for all Asian groups to meet together or to interact with the mainstream community.

Building

The goal is to design and build an architecturally unique building with features of several key Asian buildings.  Something like a morphed image of the Golden Palace of Japan, an Indian temple with a beautiful waterfall, botanic garden and sophisticated restaurant. It will be a comfortable, relaxing place for students, teachers, professionals and families.

This will be a "Green" building. Local or national architects will be invited to bid for the design of this space, thus further expanding awareness for Pittsburgh, the Asian residents and the cultural significance of our fine city.
